Tonevale Farm is a family-owned game reserve established in June 2003 on a 750 ha portion of natural bush adjoining a working sugar cane farm located only 19 kms outside of Empangeni on the R34 in beautiful Zululand, Kwazulu-Natal.

A lifelong passion for wildlife inspired the owners to fence the former cattle grazing lands and begin the arduous task of eradicating the alien bush, re-establishing roads and re-introducing game. Slowly, the natural vegetation came to life again and today wild aloes, orchids and cycads can be seen flowering in the veld and the bird life has returned to Tonevale in abundance.

Tonevale has a varied terrain and the landscape consists of flat open plains and sloping hills and valleys with many vantage points overlooking the Umhlathuze river which forms the farm’s southern boundary making it the perfect habitat for a wide variety of animals and consequently, Tonevale is home to a wide variety of buck species as well as giraffe, zebra, rhino, hippo and buffalo.

Zululand is blessed with mild winters and hot summers and is perfect for visiting all year round and Tonevale has the added benefit of being located in a malaria free area, a mere 30 minutes from the sea at Richards Bay or 2 hours from Durban all on tar road.

Tonevale offers great hunting opportunities and is a perfect venue to have a family getaway in the bush or host a small intimate party.

 

Accommodation
Tonevale offers several accommodation options depending on your budget and preference ranging from the rustic tented options to the chalet with all the comforts of home. All accommodation is charged per person per night and is on a self catering basis. Accommodations are serviced daily.

 

SELF CATERING TENTED BUSH CAMP
Hippo Dam Bush Camp overlooks one of Tonevale’s dams, and is perfect for sundowners!

The Hippo tented camp is rustic with only minimal lighting provided. A gas barbecue as well as a traditional braai are provided for cooking. The camp can sleep up to 10 people in five 2-man tents. All crockery, cutlery and bedding is provided as well as a daily cleaning service. Firewood is provided free of charge.

 

SELF CATERING SAFARI TENT CAMP
Each safari tent can accommodate four people in two separate “bedrooms” each with two single beds. Attached to each tent is a shower and toilet.
SELF CATERING CHALET
Tonevale has a comfortably furnished Bush Chalet with two bathrooms, a full kitchen, DSTV and boma area. The open plan living area and main bedroom are air-conditioned.

The chalet sleeps 18 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms and a loft area. All bedding, crockery and cutlery are provided and the chalet is serviced daily.

The large deck has gas braai facilities and a pool. The view from the deck allows you to soak in the sounds and sights of the African bush. For cosier evenings there is a large boma with a firepit. Firewood is provided free of charge.

Tonevale Farm subscribes to ethical hunting practices and therefore all hunting is on a walk and stalk basis and,
